A 78-year-old woman arrested on suspicion of murder following the discovery of a man’s body at Seven Sisters Country Park at Exceat will have no further action taken against her.

The body of 76-year-old John Gilbert was found on pathway there on Friday September 6 and police remained at the scene for several days.

At the time they confirmed an ambulance was called to the entrance of the park after a passing motorist was flagged down by a woman at 2.30am.

They refused to comment on rumours and speculation that the woman and the man, who were known to each other, had taken part in a suicide pact which went badly wrong.

Since the incident the arrested woman has been stood down from bail and released without further action.

A Sussex Police spokesman said the matter has been passed to the East Sussex coroner for an inquest to take place.
