Families are being urged to mark Saturday, November 22, in their diaries as the date when the Hailsham will officially switch on its Christmas lights.

The town is gearing up for a spectacular show in Vicarage Field featuring live entertainment in addition to the big switch-on, which will see the town centre transformed into a winter wonderland of twinkling festive lights.

The lucky winner of the Best Christmas Pizza Design competition (organised by Hailsham Town Council in partnership with Dominos Pizza) will have the honour of switching on the Christmas tree and town centre lights at 5pm alongside the Mayor of Hailsham, Cllr Jo Bentley.

Entertainment will be provided directly before and after the switch-on in Vicarage Field, including singing performances from Hailsham Community College students and Grovelands Primary School pupils from 4.45pm to 5.15pm and balloon modelling from 4pm-5.30pm. Christmas music will also be playing on a PA system at the event, courtesy of Hailsham Festival FM. Santa will be in attendance accepting letters from children from 4pm-5.30pm.

Festive refreshments including mince pies and mulled wine will be available - kindly provided by Tesco - from which money raised will go to charity.

Hailsham Parish Church will be hosting its Open Church from 4pm to 6pm at which free coffee, tea and hot chocolate will be served.

Cllr Bentley, said, “Hailsham’s Christmas lights switch-on gets better year after year and the town council’s festivities team has been working hard to make this year’s show the best one yet. I’m delighted to be involved with turning on the Christmas lights and we hope to see as many families as possible joining us on November 22 for a spectacular event of festive fun.”

Cllr Chriss Triandafyllou, Chairman of the council’s Festivities and Events Committee, said, “The switch-on is one of the most popular events of the year in Hailsham and we look forward to another wonderful night. Whenever the Christmas lights are switched on the town centre looks wonderfully festive and this year will be no exception. I hope as many people as possible come along and take part in what promises to be a very special evening for people of all ages.”
