Seaford police warn that charity donations are being stolen

Police in Seaford are advising residents not to leave donations outside charity shops after information suggesting bags of property are regularly being stolen.

It is thought that early in the morning bags of clothing that have been left overnight are being collected by a van and that this could be linked with thefts nationally from clothing recycling bins, due to the lucrative trade in second hand clothing.

Police Community Support Officer Cathy Clarke said, “Most charity shops don’t really welcome bags being left on their doorsteps and we are asking people to take the trouble to deliver their donations when the shops are open.

“If you want to make sure that your gift is actually helping charities in need and not being used to line the pockets of criminals give it in person to the shop staff.”

Anyone with information about thefts of donations should call 101.
