A GRANDFATHER from Seaford has died after falling 20ft from the roof of his home.
Steven Clemente had been carrying out work to the property at the back of The Steyne flats in Steyne Road when the tragedy unfolded.
Sussex Air Ambulance attended the scene following a call at 9.14am and the helicopter landed in a nearby field.
Police and ambulance crews were also in attendance and attempts were made to resuscitate the 69-year-old but sadly he died at the scene.
Louise Squire, who lives in nearby flats, saw him fall. She said, “I was having a cigarette and I came to the window. I didn’t see where he fell from, I saw it as he landed.
“I saw two ambulances there and about 20 minutes later a helicopter. They were trying to revive him for quite a long time. It was really upsetting.”
Nick Allen, who lives nearby, added, “The helicopter came over the house and came quite close.
“I went out there to see what was going on and they ran off towards Ringmer Road area and the back of flats there.”
A spokesman for Sussex Air Ambulance added, “I can confirm Sussex Air Ambulance was called to an incident regarding a fall from a height in Seaford.
“It took the helicopter 14 minutes to get to the scene. Despite resuscitation attempts the man sadly died at the scene.”
Mr Clemente, leaves behind a wife, son and three grandchildren.
A Sussex Police spokesman said Mr Clemente’s death was not being treated as suspicious and the investigation had been left with the coroner’s officer.
