THE SEAFORD community can benefit from increased hours at the town’s Citizens Advice Bureau.
The facility in Church Street and the bureau based in Lewes have changed their opening times so that between the two venues a full five-day service is offered across the district.
Following an internal consultation which examined how the service could be improved, the two bureaux altered their opening hours to complement one another, with Lewes CAB opening on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays and Seaford CAB opening on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays.
This means that advice is available at one or other of the bureaux from 9.30am to 3.45pm each and every day.
District manager Jackie Wilkes said, “We worked with our staff and trustees to see how we could improve our service within current budgetary restraints and I’m pleased to say that we have managed to provide five days of advice across the district without having to incur any additional expense.
“This has been achieved thanks to the flexibility and dedication of our staff and volunteers who are working tirelessly to try and help people in these difficult times.
“In the first three quarters of 2010/11 we saw a 17 per cent increase in the number of clients coming to our bureaux compared with the same period last year, despite staff and volunteer numbers remaining the same.
“We do, however, need to recruit more volunteers, so I would urge anyone who may be interested in joining CAB to phone me on 01273 477924 for an informal chat.
“No previous experience or qualifications are necessary.”
