A DRINK driving charge has seen a Seaford town councillor suspended from the Liberal Democrat group.
The action was taken after Councillor Stephen Gauntlett was arrested on Tuesday, November 8, after police were called to Hindover Road in Seaford at about 7pm.
He was later charged with the drink drive offence.
The 59-year-old, of Kedale Road, said he had not driven the vehicle.
As a result of the charge Cllr Gauntlett - also a volunteer with the Citizens Advice bureau - was suspended from the Lib Dem group pending the December 6 court case which is being held at Brighton Magistrates Court.
Lewes Liberal Democrat group leader James MacCleary said, “Cllr Gauntlett is currently suspended from the Liberal Democrat party which is standard procedure. “We cannot pre-empt the outcome of the trial.”
