SCOUTS from 1st Polegate and 1st Willingdon groups recently enjoyed a day out at Sovereign Harbour to welcome the arrival in port of the 100-year-old sailing ship, Duet. The Duet is part of the Cirdan Trust which is currently offering children a lifetime opportunity to crew a voyage of discovery around Britain. The trust aims to help young people gain personal development through the challenge of adventure at sea on large sailing ships. Scouts joined the mayor and mayoress of Eastbourne at a buffet at the Sovereign Harbour Yacht Club at the invitation of the Courtland family who own the Duet.
Scout Graeme Bye had a very special surprise when he was presented with a limited edition badge from Josephine Anderson to celebrate his recent sailing experience on a tall ship called Tenacious. The Duet sailed into Eastbourne on leg ten of its journey around the UK and while in port the arriving crew passed over the Cutty Sark baton to the next crew members.
