EASTBOURNE Borough FC’s mascot Sammy Sunshine has given his support to a fundraising walk around Sovereign Harbour.

The Harbour Walk takes place on Sunday, April 22, in aid of Guide Dogs for the Blind and a number of other Rotary charities.

The event has been organised by the Rotary Club of Sovereign Harbour and is in its second year. Last year the charity 5km sponsored walk around the marina raised an impressive £3,500 for Help for Heroes.

A club spokesperson said, “It was decided this should become an annual event but this time it’s in aid of the Guide Dogs for the Blind charity, and we hope to raise at least £5,000.

“We will be accompanied on our walk by a number of guide dogs and their owners, so we thought it only right walkers should be encouraged to bring their dogs along...and get them sponsored too.

“We will also be joined by Eastbourne’s MP, Stephen Lloyd, and the Mayor of Eastbourne, Cllr Carolyn Heaps. Please help us make this event a spectacular success, and raise as much money as possible for this very worthwhile charity.

“This is not a competition; there are no prizes for winning, it’s a gentle stroll around the marina, which will start at noon, and finish at about 1pm-1.30pm, just in time for lunch at the beautiful Sovereign Harbour Waterfront.”
