Rugby World Cup 2015 fever is set to storm Eastbourne this September, with big screen events on the opening weekend and a visit from the Webb Ellis Cup as part of the 100-day Trophy Tour of the UK and Ireland.

Arriving on September 2, the trophy will be on display at Eastbourne Rugby Football Club and Eastbourne College for one day only, as it tours events across the country, including the University of Brighton campus at Eastbourne, ahead of the world’s third largest sporting event. A few weeks later, sports fans will be able to watch all of the action from the opening weekend of Rugby World Cup 2015 at Eastbourne RFC with a big screen event held in conjunction with Eastbourne Borough Council, showing free live coverage from September 18-20.

The Trophy will end its journey at Twickenham for the start of the tournament on September 18. Eastbourne’s three-day live fan festival at Eastbourne RFC will feature catering and a licensed bar, along with eight matches broadcast live, including the opening match of England v Fiji.

Fraser Brooks, chairman of Eastbourne RFC, said, “Eastbourne RFC was chosen to welcome the trophy and we consider that to be a great honour. We hope as many local people as possible will come to the club on September 2 and join us at the start of what promises to be a great month for our sport.”

Eastbourne also welcomes the South African team later this year as an official training venue using Eastbourne College and the University of Brighton sports facilities, prior to their first match at the Amex Community Stadium in September. See www.visiteastbourne.com/rugby
