Royal Engineers Association - monthly meeting report

ONCE a sapper always a sapper – we work and play as a family.

The REA Eastbourne Branch held their monthly meeting at the Fisherman's Club, Seaside on May 28.

There was a good attendance with many future events being discussed. These included Saturday, June 27 – Veterans Day at the Redoubt Fortress and Military Museum; the Corps Open Day and Remembrance Service at Rochester Cathedral on September 20 – coach times, meeting place and meals were finalised.

The Corps get-together is at Mundesley, Norfolk, on May 14-17, 2010.

This was followed by a run-down on the Redoubt Museum by one of the Trustees, Mr Ken Baytham, succeeded by the latest on the state of the Corps in regard to operations, benevolence, finance, equipment and sport achievements, given by an REA Council member.

The next meetings are scheduled for Thursday, June 25 and July 30, both at the Fisherman's Club at 1pm.

Any sappers living in the Eastbourne/Hastings catchment area are welcome to attend – just come along or call chairman Douglas Clowes on 439210 or secretary Bill Swainsbury on 648139.
