Romance on a shoestring

VALENTINE’S Day may be a distant memory – much to the relief of the hen-pecked men of Eastbourne – but one local woman has won an award thanks to her cut-price approach to the day.

Gemma Rose, 22, has beaten off competition from hundreds of people across the country to land the £400 top prize in the nationwide competition which asked young people to share how they saved money during the February love-athon.

Entrants were asked to submit a written blog post or video clip into either the romance category, which was judged by Rosie Mullender, features editor at Cosmopolitan magazine, or the friendship category. Gemma’s romance blog entry, Cupid’s breakfast, described the perfect Valentine’s breakfast on a budget, with heart shaped toast, scented origami roses and even chocolate hearts sprinkled on coffee – accompanied by a love letter.
