HIGH Street chain River Island is opening a store in the Arndale Centre.
The fashion firm will set up shop in the unit left empty by the recent move from Sports Direct to a larger base elsewhere in the shopping centre.
A spokesman for the Arndale said, “This is fantastic news for the centre, and for Eastbourne as a whole.
“It demonstrates that major brand retailers will come to the town centre if bigger sized units that meet their requirements are made available.
“Retailers like River Island will act as a catalyst to kick start the much needed regeneration of the town centre.”
Elsewhere though there was concern that Clinton Cards could be forced to close one or both of its Arndale stores after the company went into administration.
