A CHALLENGE Day was held at Bishop Bell School to encourage young people to engage with engineering.
The task was to design a device to pick up objects remotely and carefully place them in a given target.
The team members from each school decided who would be team leader, accountant, designer, maker, and cameraman to capture the team’s progress through the assignment.
At the end of the day, all teams delivered a polished and well presented video diary of their day explaining how the task was undertaken and problems overcome.
The team members were Sophie Hillman, Harriet Tomlin, Jake Kidd, Jamie Hollywood, Lewis Hobden and Sean Chapman all in Year 8.
They gained 154 points out of a potential 175 narrowly missing a place in the final which will take place in London.
Causeway School came second with Ratton School in third.
Janice Vince, head of technology arranged the event with the support of two post-16 students Lloyd Swadling and Joseph Cox.
