Marie and Daniel Weston, who have raised £22,000 for St Wilfrid’s Hospice since May, have been named Advanta’s Residents of the Month for September.
Sadly, Dawn – who was Marie’s daughter and Daniel’s wife – died of cervical cancer in May, aged just 26. Unfortunately, Dawn was denied a possible life saving smear test as she was under the minimum age of 25.
Her family have set up a Facebook page called “The Dawn Effect” to campaign for the Smear Test age to be lowered – and to prompt people to remember to attend their smear test appointments.
Dawn spent her final days in St Wilfrid’s Hospice and the family were overwhelmed by the care and kindness they received from all the staff. See www.dawn.weston.muchloved.com for more information.
The Resident of the Month award was introduced to recognise unsung heroes in the local community and is sponsored by Advanta Chartered Accountants and the Eastbourne Herald. Michael Cottingham was delighted to present Marie and Daniel with the Advanta Resident of the Month award for their generous fundraising achievements. As part of their award Marie and Daniel will also receive a complimentary meal for two at top local restaurant Ridgways in Meads Village.
