A business is running a competition on how it should spruce up a lamp-post outside its town centre premises.
Cookshelf, in North Street, decided the street light needed some attention and got in touch with Eastbourne Borough Council to find out whose responsibility it was.
Because it is on Cookshelf’s property the owner was told that they could go ahead and get the paint brushes out.
Ally Guindi, who works there full time and whose mum Kate owns the shop, said, “We asked if we could paint it any colour and they rang back and said yes.
“So we thought about making it into something really fun.
“We have posted something on Facebook and we have been getting suggestions about painting it with spots.
“We thought we would make it into a proper competition.”
The business, which opened in February this year, is now running a competition open to everyone on Facebook until the end of July.
Kate plans to ask a local artist to choose the winner who will receive £120 worth of vouchers to use at the business.
Anyone who wishes to join the competition should like the Cookshelf business on Facebook to be able to enter.
The Cookshelf sells cook books as well as running cookery classes and also has a cafe.
