The winning design of the highly-anticipated new play area at The Salts has been announced following a public consultation.

During the annual town meeting at Seaford Head Golf Club on Tuesday, April 28, Seaford Town Council announced that Kompan’s design was chosen as the preferred option for the new seafront development.

The decision came after a thorough public consultation where Seaford residents were asked to pick their favourite design from options drawn up by four different contractors.

Council officers are now hard at work with Kompan to review public feedback from the consultation, looking at how to incorporate requests made for additions or moderations to their design of the site. This includes introducing toddler swings, a play tunnel and where possible, some more nautical themes to the design.

It is hoped a contract will be signed by the beginning of May, so work can begin as soon as possible and hopefully finish in time for the school summer holidays.

An aerial plan and photos of the chosen design can be seen on the Seaford Town Council website.

A spokesperson for Seaford Town Council said, “Seaford Town Council would like to thank all those that took part in the consultation; it was vital to get as much public input as possible to ensure that future users of the area get enjoyment and satisfaction from the play space.

“The Council would also like to thank the other three companies that put forward designs to be considered in the consultation.”

The play area was the first aspect of the Salts Development Plan to be addressed but council officers will now start to look at the tennis courts and skate park as the second stage of the development of the site.

A project is also underway to look at the Salts Café and how improvements can be made to the services offered, its visual appearance and bringing it up to a higher standard.

The council will be considering whether to look at offering the facility on a long-term lease to encourage investment in to the business as a key asset and tourist attraction of the recreation ground.

The Salts recreation ground is situated just off the seafront and within a few minutes walk of the town centre. It is home to Seaford Rugby Football Club, Seaford Cricket Club, Seaford Lifeguards and The Base. There is an on-site Salts Café, public toilets, tennis courts, basketball court, pitch and putt, outdoor gym and skate park.

Part of the development plan also hopes to include a variety of landscaping projects such as a footpath/cycle path around the outside of the main fields, as well as picnic areas and viewing areas for events and other entertainment such as outdoor movies.

Regular updates on The Salts development will be posted on the Seaford Town Council website at and on its Facebook page ( and Twitter site (
