Pub landlord arrested for meat cleaver attack

A pub landlord was arrested after being accused of attacking a man with a meat cleaver at the weekend.

Terrence James Magee, the landlord at the Prince Albert Pub in Old Town, was taken into custody by police in the early hours of Saturday morning.

He has charged with GBH as well as assaulting a 43-year-old woman.

A spokesperson for Sussex Police said, “Officers were called to the popular pub at 1.45am on Saturday July 21 following reports of an assault. A local man was treated at Eastbourne District Hospital for facial injuries believed to have been caused by a meat cleaver, but was later discharged. “Both assaults are alleged to have taken place in the pub, which was closed at the time and no customers were present.”

Magee, 59, appeared before magistrates at Eastbourne this morning (Monday) where he was released on conditional bail.

The case against Magee was adjourned until a hearing at the crown court.
