A businessman who was owed money by an estate agent was arrested after daubing the front of the shop with red paint.

The 41-year-old, who carried out work for the estate agency last year, wrote ‘You owe me £57.50 from 30/5/12’ on the front window of Your Move in Beatty Road on Tuesday (July 23) .

Police were called and the man was arrested on suspicion of criminal damage. He has accepted a formal police caution for the offence.

Maureen Fairclough, manager at the Your Move branch, said, “They had not produced their public liability insurance certificate, which Your Move needs before payment.

“However, they gave it to us about a week ago and head office were arranging for a cheque to be sent out. That will still happen, irrespective of subsequent events.

We see this as a bit of a ‘heat-of-the-moment’ thing and I’m sure he’s regretted it since but we’ve accepted the offer of an apology and do not intend to push for a prosecution.”

Your Move staff at Langney Point removed the graffiti from the window that evening.
