FOOTBALL fans have long been jetting off to exotic locations like Milan, Barcelona and Madrid for a fix of footy-themed fun - and now they can add Eastbourne to that list.
The Blue Square South outfit has teamed up with local gym David Lloyd to offer visiting supporters the chance to extend their stay on the south coast by snapping up an overnight football package.
For £69 for two people, fans can take in a match at Priory Lane and rest their heads (hopefully after a home win) at the David Lloyd Lodge – with full use of its leisure facilities.
The Sports currently sit in 10th place in the league but are licking their wounds following an unexpected exit from the FA Cup last weekend.
However, with sides like Truro City, Basingstoke and Weston Super Mare still to visit Sussex the club hope the offer will encourage rival fans to make a weekend of their trip to Eastbourne.
And ‘Boro officials hope to tempt fans from less far afield to tie their visit in with an overnight jaunt.
The club has previously trialled a similar scheme but hopes that by adding the David Lloyd Lodge pass to the deal it can attract bigger crowds to matches – and boost the local economy at the same time.
Eastbourne Borough Council has been instrumental in setting up the scheme and the local authority’s head of tourism, Councillor Neil Stanley, said it should benefit the wider population and not just Eastbourne’s premier football team.
He said, “We are delighted to continue our partnership with Eastbourne Borough FC and are looking forward to continuing to bring new audiences into Eastbourne.
“This year our partnership has been boosted with the Eastbourne David Lloyd Lodge coming on board offering brilliant value accommodation as well as the chance for fans to make the most of the great fitness facilities available at the David Lloyd Club including gym, swimming pool and racquet sports.”
