A SEAFORD resident has been awarded a prestigious honour by the Malaysian government.

Mark Brown, of Princess Drive, was presented with the Malaysian Pingat Jasa Malaysia (PJM) Medal and Citation by Brigadier General Othman bin Hj Jamal of the Malaysian High Commission in London.

Mr Brown served in a reconnaissance role with the New Zealand Regiment and the Ghurkha Rifles in the Malay Peninsular and Borneo in the 1960s.

Troops helped assist Malaysia during the armed confrontation with Indonesia that ended on August 12, 1966.

In appreciation of the meritorious acts of sacrifices made by the security forces of Britain, Australia, New Zealand, Fiji and Nepal the Supreme Head of the Federation of Malaysia wished to award medals to all those who distinguished themselves in chivalry, gallantry, and loyalty while performing their services.

Mr Brown is chairman of the Seaford and Bishopstone Neighbourhood Watch Association, the Seaford Twinning Association and is a member of the Seaford Martello Rotary Club.
