Pop music night to aid Mencap project

A POP evening will be held at The Grand Hotel to raise money for Eastbourne Mencap’s modernisation project.

The fundraiser is being organised by The Conference People and will take place on Friday, September 30.

The price includes a welcome drink, three-course meal and entertainment including live music, a disco and a pop quiz.

Tickets cost £650 for a table of 10 and all profits will go towards Mencap’s project.

The local branch, which was set up in Eastbourne around 60 years ago, supports adults with learning disabilities.

The charity has planning permission to thoroughly modernise its residential homes in the Upperton area and build a two-bedroom independent living cottage.

This work needs to be carried out because the two homes are Victorian properties and although very homely, are no longer ideal for the residents as they become older.

Debbie Water, fundraising manager at Eastbourne Mencap, said, “It is essential that we now take measures to ensure that the future needs and requirements of our existing residents and those who are subsequently referred to us can be met.

“Mobility is a key issue, which could easily be compromised by the effects of ageing and ill health.”

The modernisation will provide individual bedrooms with en-suites and the installation of a lift which will enable all residents greater freedom to areas in the homes,
