Dogs of all shapes and sizes will descend upon Eastbourne seafront this weekend as the annual Pooches on the Prom event returns on Sunday.
The day, in aid of Demelza Hospice Care for Children, will see a three-mile sponsored walk, starting at Helen Gardens and venturing to the pier and back, followed by a fun dog show.
A fee of £5, payable on the day, will get a pet plus one owner into the dog walk, with registration starting at 11am ready to set off at midday.
On return to the Gardens, pooches will get the chance to win rosettes and trophies at the dog show, where categories include Best Pedigree, Best Cross Breed, Best Puppy, Best Veteran, Most Handsome Dog and Prettiest Bitch.
Entrance into the dog show costs £2 per dog, per class and the winners will be invited to compete for Best in Show with a special rosette to be presented by Denise Day from Eastbourne Town Football Club – the sponsors of the event.
Aside from the doggy activities, the day will include Hook a Duck, Splat the Rat, a tombola and raffle. There will also be plenty of trade stalls and a chance to meet Tallulah, the Miniature Schnauzer Jack Russell who beat 85 hopefuls to become mascot of the year.
The Dogs Trust will also be on hand to offer a free micro-chipping service at their stand.
All proceeds from the day will go to helping Demelza proved a hospice at home service to local children and their families.
