IT was a case of Polly put the kettle on at a tea party for Marie Curie Cancer Care.

BBC news anchor Polly Evans was guest of honour at the recent event, which raised £1,033 for the charity.

Held at the Hydro Hotel, the day was split into two sessions – one in the morning and a business networking event in the afternoon.

South East Today presenter Polly was full of praise for the organisers after popping along to the early tea part.

She said, “It was an absolute pleasure to be invited along to Eastbourne for The Hydro Hotel’s Blooming Great Tea Party. What better way to raise money for such a good cause than over a nice cup of tea and cake, not to mention a natter. Raising more than £1,000 is a great achievement.”

In the afternoon, local businesses and Eastbourne MP Stephen Lloyd were joined by another well-known local TV personality, former weather girl Kaddy Lee-Preston.

Hollie Lucas, community fundraiser for Marie Curie, said, “The staff at the Hydro Hotel worked really hard to put on these two fantastic parties. The atmosphere was lovely and the community really came together to support Marie Curie Cancer Care. The money raised will help the Marie Curie Cancer Care nurses to care for more terminally ill people in Sussex.”
