Police are seeking an Eastbourne man who is wanted for failing to answer bail to be charged with possessing indecent images of children.

They are concerned that 54-year-old Brian Rogers may try and befriend families with young girls and boys in a bid to get close to them.

He is described as white, 5’11”, of heavy build, with short brown but greying hair. He was last seen with a long beard and speaks with a muffled southern accent.

He dresses very casually and his appearance may indicate that he is sleeping rough. He has lived at locations in Eastbourne and Brighton within the past two years.

Detective Inspector Lee Horner said, “Extensive enquiries have been made to find this man and active enquiries are still continuing, but so far these have failed to reveal his current location.

“Anyone who sees him or knows of his whereabouts is asked to call us on 101 quoting Serial 0456 of 22/8. You can also call independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

“His details have been circulated to every police force in the UK, and beyond via Interpol as matter of standard procedure in such cases.

“Although there is no immediate threat to the wider public, we believe Rogers may try to befriend families of young girls and boys, and we are concerned that he may manipulate relationships for his own advantage.”

There is no evidence that he has carried out any contact offending relating to the offence currently under investigation. The images involved come from the Internet and are not believed to be of local children.

However police remain concerned about the potential risk Rogers poses whilst his whereabouts are unknown and he is unmonitored.
