Police sergeant assaulted his partner

A TRAFFIC officer based at Polegate has been convicted of assaulting his partner.

Carl Chiverrell, 44, a sergeant based with the Sussex Police Roads Policing Unit, appeared at Haywards Heath Magistrates Court last week and was found guilty of common assault.

He was cleared of two other assaults.

Chiverrell was bailed for reports and will be sentenced at Crawley Magistrates Court on September 28.

He was suspended from duty following an investigation by the East Sussex Adult Protection Team and will now be subject to misconduct proceedings.

After the court case Detective Inspector Fran Mitchell, who heads the East Sussex Adult Protection Team, said, “Domestic abuse is a priority for Sussex Police and a key part of my team’s role is to thoroughly and professionally investigate every such report we receive as we did in this case.”
