Police have released CCTV images of a would-be robber after a failed raid on a Eastbourne betting shop last night (December 2).

The man ran into the Ladbrokes bookmakers in Brassey Avenue, Hampden Park, at around 9.40pm and threatened a female cashier with a knife.

The cashier showed the man a personal attack alarm and told him she would trigger it. The man fled empty-handed in the direction of Nevill Avenue.

Police say he is a slim white man, between 5ft 3in and 5ft 4in and in his late teens to early 20s.

He was wearing a dark blue puffa-style jacket over a lighter blue hooded top. Both hoods were pulled up and his face was hidden by a blue scarf.

He was also wearing jeans and spoke with a local accent.

Detective Inspector Neil Ralph of Eastbourne CID, said, “If anyone recognisers the suspect, either from the images obtained of him or from his description, we would ask them to get in touch as soon as possible. Also, if anyone has any other information which may help our enquiries, we would like to heat from them.”
