Police release efit after attempted robbery on security guards in Eastbourne

Police have released an efit of one of the suspects after two security guards were targeted in an attempted robbery outside Waitrose supermarket in Eastbourne this week.

The two security staff, who had just stepped out of a security van, were at the cashpoint at the High Street store at around 11.20am on Tuesday when they were approached by two men who said they had a gun and demanded cash.

The guards refused to hand over the cash and the men ran off towards the store’s car park area.

The suspect in the efit is described as a white man, aged in his mid 30s, 5ft 9in tall of slender build, with brown/red wavy hair, blue eyes with a narrow face and clean shaven.He was wearing a baseball cap, but this was knocked off during the incident.

The other one is described as a white man, aged in his late 20s, early 30s 5ft 8in tall of slender build, with grey hair and was wearing a light coloured baseball cap, a grey jacket and light brown jeans.

Detective Sergeant Suzy Joseph said: “We are appealing for anyone to come forward who recognises this suspect from the efit and description or the other suspect. Contact Sussex Police on 101 quoting serial 0463 of 30/4.

“Officers from the neighbourhood policing team will be at the Waitrose store at the same time next Tuesday (May 7) in an attempt to jog any memories and to offer reassurance and advice to anyone who may have concerns.”
