THREE men have been arrested following a raid at a service station in Hailsham over a week ago involving two men wearing balaclavas and wielding an axe.
Two masked men entered the Hawkswood Service Station in Hawkswood Road last Monday (October 29) at 9.10pm.
The two men were armed with an axe and threatened a member of staff in a frightening attack before making off with the contents of the cash register and cigarettes.
At the weekend, the men aged 51, 24 and 21 were arrested following an appeal for information which was publicised by local media.
Police released stills of the robbery drawn from CCTV coverage which were published last week.
All three were arrested on November 1 and have been bailed until 16 November pending further enquiries.
Sussex Police reported that the cigarettes have now been recovered.
Detective Inspector Rob Morland from East Sussex CID said, “The member of staff was on his own and was verbally threatened but fortunately not physically injured.”
