A teenage girl has reported being ‘extremely distressed’ after a stranger followed her through Eastbourne town centre this week.
The 17-year-old was followed after getting off the bus in Terminus Road at around 6pm on Tuesday, January 5.
She noticed a man watching her as she got money out of the NatWest Bank cashpoint.
The stranger followed her along the road and repeatedly tried to engage her in conversation.
Shaken by the experience, she went into Iceland in Langney Road in an attempt to get away from the man.
He followed her in and continued trying to speak to her before eventually leaving the shop.
The 17-year-old alerted staff and the police were called.
Inspector Andy Eggleton said, “The girl did not know the man and he continued to try to speak to her when she tried to end the conversation. He eventually left the shop. The girl was extremely distressed by what happened.
“She describes him as around 5ft 6in tall, in his 20s with short dark hair and a foreign accent. He was wearing a beanie style hat and black trousers.”
Anyone who was in the Terminus Road area or Iceland around 6pm and can supply any information is asked to contact police on firstname.lastname@example.org quoting serial 1209 of 05/01.
