Police investigating the murder of student Janet Müller were in Hove yesterday (Thursday, March 19) asking people near Mill View Hospital if they saw her the day before she died.

Janet, 21 – a student from Eastbourne – was last seen at the hospital in Nevill Avenue at 10pm on Thursday (March 12). They are appealing to anyone who may have seen her leave or walk in the area.

Officers stopped passers-by and handed them leaflets with a photo of Janet.

Detective Chief Inspector Karen Mizzi of the Surrey and Sussex Major Crime Team said: “I am appealing for information from anyone who may have seen Janet on Thursday night (March 12).

“Officers will be talking to people and just asking them to stop for a moment and think about whether they were in the area at the relevant time and whether they recall seeing Janet.

“We are trying to build a picture of what happened to her from when she was last seen at the hospital.”

Janet was of mixed race, slim and 5’ 7’ with shoulder length dark brown afro hair and brown eyes. She was wearing dark clothing.

The body of a woman was found in a burning car in Rusper Road, Ifield, on Friday (March 13). This was later identified as that of Janet Müller, a University of Brighton student from Eastbourne.

Christopher Jeffrey-Shaw, 26, of Lakeside, Beckenham, London, has been charged with the murder of Janet in Ifield on Friday (March 13).

Anyone with information is urged to contact Sussex Police on 101 or email 101@sussex.pnn.police.uk quoting Operation Madeira or call the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
