Police are appealing for witnesses after an elderly man was confronted and pushed over on Marine Parade yesterday afternoon (Tuesday, December 9).

The unprovoked attack happened shortly after 2.30pm, when a local 68-year-old man was leaving Fusciardi’s ice-cream parlour with his wife to walk towards the pier.

The victim was confronted and pushed to the pavement, causing him to bump his head. As a result, he required treatment at the Eastbourne DGH.

The assailant is described as a man in his 20s or 30s, 5’8”, of medium build, clean shaven and with short dark brown hair. He was wearing a black three-quarter length coat and black trousers. He was seen to walk away in the direction of Seaside and the town centre.

Several people went to the victim’s aid and police would like to speak to them and to anyone else who may have seen what happened or who has other relevant information.

They are asked to email 101@sussex.pnn.police.uk or phone 101, quoting serial 817 of 9/12. Alternatively they can call the independent charity Crimestoppers free and anonymously on 0800 555 111.
