Two bank machines in Eastbourne were damaged by an attempt to fit them with a skimming machine.

Bank staff discovered a hole in one of the card readers outside Barclays Bank in Terminus Road, when they arrived for work on June 12. The card slot on the other machine was also damaged.

Two men were caught on CCTV acting suspiciously around the bank machines during the time it is believed they were damaged.

Sussex Police officers are now investigating and PC Lauren Barnes said, “We want to speak to both this man who was caught on CCTV in related to this incident.

“The damage happened between 10pm and 11pm on Tuesday June 11. A similar incident occurred in late March when the same two machines were targeted. The damage was caused to try to place skimming devices in the machines, however the bank has a system which means once the machine is tampered with it shuts down until the bank re-sets it.

“If anyone recognises this m an or has any information regarding this incident I would urge them to contact police as soon as possible on 101, quoting serial number 0300 of 12/06.

“Alternatively, they can call the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.”
