Polegate Twinning - busy French make most of their visit

AFTER our wonderful visit to Appen in Germany in April/May, 30 French people from Saintry-sur-Seine arrived in Polegate just before Ascension Day and experienced four days of British weather at its best.

The programme for their visit started with a day at Bentley Wildfowl Park and Motor Museum, which had something for everyone, including the five children who accompanied them.

The evening culminated in a wonderful meal at the Wheatsheaf in Little Common, which the French and their host families all appreciated.

The next day, Brighton Pavilion won their hearts as they gazed in awe at the fantastic rooms and furnishings.

Free time in Brighton afterwards allowed our guests to sample beer in an English pub, the Lanes and the pier and all its attractions.

The next day, which was free for the visitors, tempted some to go to London, others to Hastings on the trail of the smugglers and others to shop and sight-see locally.

The evening was again enjoyed as we all joined in barn dancing with a buffet supper at the Community Centre.

After four days of whirlwind activity with the mixed group we sadly had to say goodbye to our French friends.

If you are interested in joining the group, or would like more information about it, please contact Jenny Hammond on 461510, or Doreen Joy 0n 487928.

Membership is open to people of all ages who are interested in international friendship.

Our next fund raising event will be a beetle drive at Polegate Community Centre on June 20 at 7.30pm. All welcome.
