POLEGATE is officially on the map thanks to Pevensey Bay artist Alan Everard.
The artist came to Polegate to take photographs of locations and landmarks in different lights in order to incorporate points of interest into a new town map painting.
The map was originally the idea of Cllr Chris Berry and Cllr John Rogers after seeing the artist’s work four years ago in Pevensey Bay.
Polegate Town Mayor, Cllr Tim Voyce unveiled the new map in front of onlookers and councillors at in Polegate Centre on Monday. The town map has now been encased and stands proudly on the corner of the town centre so visitors by train and bus can see it along with shoppers and pedestrians.
Cutting the ribbon during a ceremony on Monday February 28, Cllr Voyce said, “This map illustrates local landmarks and places of interest and will be a historic reminder of all that is good in Polegate today.”
The original painting is hanging in the Council Chamber and a copy is also on display at Polegate’s library.
Another copy was given to Rev Mark Lucas when he left St John’s Church and the only other remaining copy was given to Polegate’s twin town of Appen in Germany.
