Polegate man guilty of £16,000 benefits con

A Polegate man has admitted conning £16,182 of benefits he was not entitled.

Stuart Turner, of Dittons Road, appeared before magistrates on December 5 and pleaded guilty to five charges of dishonestly failing to promptly notify a change of circumstances for the purposes of obtaining benefit/ making false statements and supplying false documents to support claims. Turner claimed housing benefit for an address in Eastbourne where he did not live; he was living in Polegate. As a result he received £16,182.80 to which he was not entitled. He was sentenced to 12 months imprisonment suspended on condition he completes 200 hours unpaid work in the next year and ordered to pay the council’s court costs.
