PICTURE GALLERY: Ball raises £14,000 towards robot surgeon

The Friends of the Eastbourne Hospital and the Rotary Club of Eastbourne held their sixth annual fundraising ball at the Winter Garden on March 21.

The Celebrate the Future Ball marked the arrival of the new surgical robot at the DGH – the only one in Sussex – enabling major surgery for prostate cancer to be carried out by key-hole surgery with greater precision and accuracy, with less tissue damage and a much speedier recovery. It is a major step in creating a Centre of Excellence at the DGH.

Additionally, the Friends announced that the contracts had finally been signed to commence work on the long overdue redevelopment of Pevensey Ward (haematology and oncology) and that plans to bring radiotherapy to Eastbourne were progressing rapidly.

The night raised nearly £14,000 towards the Friends’ target of £1 million, and thanks are due to all of the sponsors, principally “etc” magazine and the Eastbourne Herald, and W.Brufords jewellers for their support. Other sponsorship from Party Enterprising (magnificent balloon displays), Audrey Fletcher-Price (A Creative Instinct) and Chalvington Communications (telephone auction) plus many others helped 240 guests celebrate in style.
