UNIVERSITY students have donated food to Eastbourne Foodbank.
The Brighton University students handed over the food to help local residents struggling to make ends meet. Welkin halls of residence have introduced a food donation initiative to encourage students to drop off any surplus cans, jars or dry foods to the Eastbourne Foodbank before they leave for their summer break.
Eastbourne Foodbank works with 70 different agencies to help supply emergency food to vulnerable people living in crisis. Due to the students’ generosity, six large crates of food have been donated to the Eastbourne Foodbank Centre in Cornfield Lane for distribution.
Howard Wardle, project manager at Eastbourne Foodbank, said, “In Eastbourne we have seen an increase in the number of people who are struggling to make ends meet. We are delighted that University of Brighton students have donated this food, which will help to stop families going hungry. We would like to say a huge thank you to Viridian and look forward to working with Welkin halls of residence in the future.”
