Phone with '˜irreplaceable' photos returned to victim

Police wish to speak with this woman in connection with a theft in a Brighton Supermarket SUS-170203-174014001

The theft, which police say took place in a Brighton supermarket, had caused real heartache for the victim – a 23-year-old Seaford woman – as it contains irreplaceable photos of her mother who has recently died.

Shortly after police released a photo of a woman they want to talk to about the theft on Monday (February 27), a woman handed the phone in at the front counter at Brighton police station. She said she had found it but refused to give any details of herself or the circumstances when asked.

Inspector Paul Williams said: “The victim is delighted to get her phone back and she and we are grateful for publicity given by news media and social media users as we think that is what caused the phone to be handed in.

“But we’d still like to talk to the woman in the photo. If you know who this woman is please contact us via [email protected] quoting serial 776 of 23/02.”

Police say the victim, a 23-year old Seaford woman was shopping at the Morrisons in St James’s Street, Brighton when the theft took place at about 2pm on Thursday (February 23).

The victim had put her mobile phone in her shopping basket but, while at a self-service checkout, a woman took the phone and walked away.

The woman police want to talk to (pictured) is described as white, in her mid-20s to early-30s, slim, with medium length blonde hair tied back which had black roots showing.

She wore glasses, flat shoes, a blue ‘parka style’ anorak with furry hood a skirt, dark coloured tights and a grey scarf, which was wrapped around her.
