Where’s the shopping list?
Mistletoe, star, holly, coloured lights, tree (last year’s is still on its back in the garden).
Wrapping paper, sellotape, ribbons, labels, Argos catalogue. (Socks again for Uncle George).
Turkey, stuffing, serviettes, wine, nuts, chocolate, indigestion tablets (We know who always eats and drinks too much, don’t we?).
Radio Times, blank videos (Mary Poppins and the Queen’s Speech every time).
Games, crackers, music, ear plugs. (Grandma isn’t joining us, so someone else might win the Scrabble.)
In all the planning, all the spending, all the celebrating, please, please bear in mind the real meaning of Christmas.
‘Here is a trustworthy saying that deserves full acceptance: Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners’ (1 Timothy 1, 15).
