Myself and the Little Treasures have spent our Easter holiday this week in Costa Del Eastbourne.
I had hoped to get out in the garden, get my carrots, garlic and onions in the veg patch – especially seeing as I have finally managed to stop the local tom cat depositing piles of his offending mess on my top soil – but the unseasonal weather (it’s Thursday morning and snowing yet again!) has put paid to that plan.
Instead we have been checking out the local attractions and at the weekend I found myself with hundreds of other people mooching around the newly refurbished Redoubt.
As a child, I loved the Redoubt with its model village and aquarium and as teenagers we used to watch bands there. For years the building was neglected but thanks to a council cash injection and hours of work by dedicated volunteers, it has been stylishly refurbished and is well worth a visit whatever your age as is the Outpost Cafe and gift shop.
It just shows what, with a bit of dosh and imagination, what can be done. Perhaps it’s time to do the same thing with the actual Wish Tower fortress?
Talking of the Wish Tower, I love the American Airstream eatery that has taken pride of place at the beautyspot.
And at only £1.50 for a cuppa, it’s a lot cheaper than some of the other catering outlets on the prom. And to all the critics, don’t knock it until you’ve tried it.
I had a moan up a few weeks ago about the Real Time bus information signs around the town being on the blink and how I would remind voters it was down to the councillors who sit on East Sussex County Council when it was time for people to go to the polls.
Those signs are back up and running now, so fair’s fair and well done those councillors and Stagecoach for getting them working again.
