Increase in calls since TV award

What a great night we had watching the British Animal Honours 2013. A group of our volunteers spent the evening in our Education Room watching the programme as it went out last week.

We were thrilled to win the Local Animal Charity of the Year Award, when there are so many local organisations working so hard across the country. I am so proud of all our volunteers and supporters.

The number of calls we have received has certainly shot up since the filming, and we hope we will receive some much-needed funds.

If you can help support our work either with a one off donation or more importantly a standing order for as little as £1 a month it would be very much appreciated.

We have had a few fox cub calls this week and WRAS carer Nikki has taken on some baby rabbits which were unfortunately disturbed and their nest destroyed at a local turf farm.

The surviving four baby rabbits are pulling through but sadly the smallest one died shortly after coming into care.

Wild baby rabbits are notoriously difficult to rear, but Nikki has quite a bit of experience and will try her best.

We have also had a female mallard and two ducklings admitted to the Casualty Centre after they were run over on the A27 between Berwick village and Drusillas Roundabout.

Mum took quite a knock - split her beak, has d road burn on her chest and a nasty puncture wound to her chest, which needed closing up. Sadly one of the two remaining ducklings hasn’t survived.

Two baby badgers which were rescued after being attacked by a dog, are doing well with their carers at Folly Wildlife Rescue. When rescuers arrived at the scene on the northern edge of Seaford, the badgers had retreated into a nearby hole.

Karen Breese ran the London Marathon at the weekend as the first of her four challenges to help wildlife. Karen and WRAS would love your support. Karen’s Justgiving page is www.justgiving.com/4challenges4wildlife

WRAS is also giving away a hedgehog picture by artist Sandra Palme. By donating £5 you enter into a draw to win the portrait. Visit donations@wildlifeambulance.org, please add a note stating it is for the hedgehog draw or via www.justgiving.com/hedge hogportrait
