A 28-YEAR-OLD Eastbourne man died after being thrown from a car at Hankham, near Pevensey.
The one-car crash happened just after 3am on Monday (January 3) on Hankham Road, near the junction with Foords Lane.
Police are still trying to establish the circumstances of the crash but believe the silver Vauxhall Astra, travelled further along the road before stopping.
The victim was taken to the Eastbourne DGH where he was declared dead at 8.45am.
A 17-year-old girl from Eastbourne was also taken to hospital with a broken leg. An 18-year-old girl from Eastbourne was uninjured, but was arrested on suspicion of taking a vehicle without consent. She has been bailed until April 15.
A 21-year-old man from Eastbourne was arrested later on Monday on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and taking a vehicle without consent. He was bailed until April 20.
Police are appealing for any witnesses to the collision or anyone who may have seen the silver Astra being driven in the Eastbourne and Pevensey area in the time leading up to the incident to call 0845 6070999, quoting Operation Downham.
Red roses were left at the scene as a tribute to the victim.
