OLYMPIC TORCH: Trains preparing to take the Olympic strain

THE FLAME may be coming to Eastbourne next week but hundreds of locals are expected to head to London for the Olympics.

London 2012 gets underway on July 27 and runs until August 12 with the cream of world sport heading to the capital to compete.

And, for anyone travelling to London from Eastbourne there will be a string of extra trains running throughout the duration of both the Olympics and the Paralympics which the follow.

Rail operators Southern Rail has not only scheduled extra services during the Games but is also adding more carriages to those already running.

The train firm has used information supplied by Games organisers who can see from the ticket order information where people need to get back to and has included Eastbourne as one of the destinations to benefit from increased service.

There will also be extra staff during the Games, who will be joined by a small army of volunteers to try and make sure busy stations are manned throughout the international sporting showcase.

Non-foldable bikes will be banned from many services during London 2012 because they take up too much space.
