PARTS of Eastbourne will grind to a halt during the torch’s visit to Eastbourne tomorrow with a host of roads due to be closed to clear the way for the relay.
Locals are being warned that the arrival of the torch will generate a considerable amount of traffic disruption between 3pm and 4.35pm, with each of the roads along the route closed around 20 minutes before the torch arrives in town.
Bus firm Stagecoach is also expecting significant delays, diversions and disruptions and is advising customers to allow extra time for journeys on Tuesday afternoon.
Restricted parking will also be in operation along the left hand side of the roads along the route, from 7am on the morning of the relay, with any illegally parked cars towed away.
For safety reasons, the section of Seaside Road, running between Susans Road and Cavendish Place junctions will have parking restrictions on both sides of the road.
Free parking will be available at Five Acre Field (opposite Princes Park), however usual rates apply at existing seafront car parks, and drivers are urged to arrive at least an hour before the torch arrival.
Parts of Fisherman’s Green Car Park will be in use by the torch convoy and will offer only limited parking.
Latest arrival time for seafront car parks (one hour before torch passing by) is as follows: 2.45pm for Treasure Island car park, 2.55pm for Fisherman’s Green car park and 3.15pm for Fort Fun.
