AN EASTBOURNE bass player will appear on the stage at Hyde Park today (August 3) in a concert to celebrate the Olympics.
Sussex Downs College student Stephen Eveleigh will be performing with his three band mates as part of Red Butler, a blues, rock and soul band.
Stephen is the only band member from Eastbourne and he will be playing on the BT Live Stage in the London park alongside the likes of Snow Patrol and Blur in front of some of more than a million people.
Red Butler will be performing two sets today (August 3) at 2pm and 6.10pm.
Stephen, 20, who has just finished his BTEC in music at Sussex Downs College, said, “When you tell people you are performing at Hyde Park they can’t believe it.
“It is very nerve-wracking but also very, very exciting.”
Stephen explained he and the other band members had only been together since April but would be playing three original tracks they have written themselves and four covers.
Stephen is hoping this won’t be just a once in a lifetime experience because people from the music industry will be watching the talent.
Since leaving college he is hoping to do as many gigs as possible to kick-start his music career and added, “Even if nothing comes from the Hyde Park gig on the night, it will be a great thing to tell people in the future.”
Red Butler are one of 30 student acts to have been selected to each perform a 30 minute slot live on the Hyde Park Bandstand stage. Visit www.btlondonlive.com.
