Nurse’s dedication rewarded

A SPECIALIST HIV nurse from Eastbourne has won a prestigious award. Martin Jones, clinical nurse specialist with East Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust, has been awarded the National HIV Nurses Association’s Nursing Award 2011.

Martin, who has been involved in HIV nursing since 1986 ,including 17 years as a clinical nurse specialist in the Eastbourne area, received the award at the National HIV Nurses Association Conference in Liverpool earlier this month.

Martin was nominated by members of the Avenue Forum, the local HIV users’ forum who meet at Avenue House.

In their nomination they said, “Martin’s enthusiasm and energy is boundless and he has always gone above and beyond his duties.

“He has always got a lot of time for you, however busy, and makes you feel so important and special.

“He is so versatile and terrific at communicating and putting you at ease, something very important whether newly diagnosed or an old timer. He has always offered such a lot of support and advice.”

On accepting the award, Martin said, “This is a delightful surprise and an honour. I am especially proud to have been nominated by service users.”
