NOSTALGIA: Exploring the changing faces of Eastbourne

Now, Eastbourne artist Paul Jordan has researched archives to discover images of the town’s streets throughout the years and from these sources he has produced his new watercolour and ink artworks finely documenting the changing streetscapes of the town for a new expo at the Heritage Centre in Carlisle Road.

Paul’s work takes the public through the eras to discover how much rebuilding or remodelling has taken place and see the changing face of streets, the transformation of buildings from residential villas to commercial premises and shops.

Each work traces the evolution of a section of a particular Eastbourne street including Terminus, Bolton, Seaside and Cornfield Roads and is composed of a number of illustrations of that street taken from the same spot but at different times.

Through the juxtaposition of different eras in one illustration, each work provides an opportunity to compare and contrast and see the evolution through time.

Paul Jordan will also give a talk on How Streetscapes Evolved on May 11. Doors open at 6pm and the talk starts 7pm. Tickets are £5 and include wine, soft drinks, tea, coffee, and light snacks, with the opportunity to see the new exhibition and the centre. Tickets obtainable at the centre beforehand or on the night.
