NHS dentist taking on patients

SEEING a dentist on the NHS in Hailsham has just become easier following a surgery's £60,000 refurbishment.

North Street Dental Care has expanded its surgery to include an extra consultation room, allowing it to take on more patients.

Principal dentist Dr Mehdi Pourani, who has been at North Street for eight years, said he was pleased to be able to welcome a greater number of NHS patients.

He told the Gazette, "We're able to take more people on now we've opened another surgery.

"A lot of people don't attend the dentist through a feeling of fear – there's a lot of good research showing it.

"So we've made the waiting room smarter and redecorated to make sure patients are comfortable."

East Sussex Downs and Weald Primary Care Trust said it had commissioned a number of new NHS dental services in both new and existing practices.

A spokesperson added, "There are currently 28 NHS dental practices across East Sussex Downs and Weald accepting new NHS patients.

"A number of new NHS dental practices have recently opened with three more scheduled to start providing new services later this year.

"To make people more aware of these existing and new services, we will be launching a publicity campaign later in the year.

"This is also aimed at encouraging more people to visit an NHS dentist regularly and increase awareness of how to access NHS dental care."
