All 1,750 places were filled for the cross country challenge which takes in a number of stunning views across the South Downs.

Walkers, joggers and runners challenged themselves to complete the 26-mile course.

Councillor Steve Wallis, Eastbourne Borough Council spokesperson for Tourism, said "It is a great success story to have the Beachy Head Marathon voted a favourite with UK runners and even more exciting is that it's attracting such a vast array of competitors."

Runners, joggers and walkers took part in the route, which includes 300 steps and 14 stiles.

The Mayor of Eastbourne, Cllr Mary Pooley officially started the 2007 Beachy Head Marathon at 9am.
