Eastbourne for Peace and Liberty held their traditional New Year’s Day vigil on the Town Hall steps to announce their hopes for 2015.
They drew encouragement from recent moves towards a world free of nuclear weapons at a Vienna conference – meanwhile, the tiny republic of the Marshall Islands is suing the UK for reneging on its solemn pledge to work towards a treaty abolishing nuclear weapons. Organiser George Farebrother said, “Both of these moves were based on concerned citizens working with experts and supportive countries. It is people, by their steadfast actions, great or small and little by little, who bring about peace. ”
